Statement
For over 30 years I have embodied different people, examining specific subcultures, their sexualities, and related mental dysfunctions. In my last project, The Homo Bonobo Project, I took this process even further, studying the sexuality of apes and applying this knowledge to humans — observing our sexuality as behavior.
Over the past few years I have re-approached my body of work, expanding my repertoire to an even more inclusive "3rd act" of my performance oeuvre, by creating painted clothing as mask and costume which comes from understanding that character performance -- drag -- is wearing the mask, like an ancient shamanic mimicry, which arose out of our animal ancestors.
